On A Roll

The show season has taken off. Hardly enough time to breath let alone keep up with the demand. I am not complaining! So far we've had good weather and the people I'm meeting along the way have been very supportive. Couldn't ask for a better start.
The 57th Street Art Fair was a success. My booth was next to a jeweler, Amy Taylor and her husband Tom. Lovely couple and her work is outstanding. I just had to purchase some earrings. I told my husband that it was what he was getting me for my birthday. Go to www.amytaylorjewelry.com to see her wonderful creations.

I was also visited by many people who have bought my work in past years. They are still in love with their little works of art.

Last and certainly not least, there WAS Wells Street Art Fest. It was the first time I've done this show. Not sure why I haven't done it before except other artists say it's one of the hardest shows to participate in. The hours are very long and the crowds are massive but I have got to say it was probably my most rewarding show to date. I will agree that it's extremely stressful and it's taking some time to recoup. I want to thank everyone who came by my booth to praise my work. You don't know how much that means to me!

Just one sad note, I have to cancel my next show in Bloomington, IN. I need to attend to some business here and am unable to leave Chicago to make the trip. This is a show I was looking forward to doing. Maybe next year.
Thank you again and I'll see you at a show along the way.

Glenwood Ave Arts Fest

Can't believe it's the middle of August already. I've had a wonderful run of shows this summer. It did get pretty hot for some of them but this weekend is going to be very nice. I'll be in the Glenwood Ave Arts Fest booth #48. This is such a nice show AND it's in my neighborhood, Rogers Park. I've tried to stock up on everything but still can't seem to catch up with inventory so stop by early for the best picks.

Next week, I'll be in the Bucktown Arts Fest booth #159. It'll be my first year in this show and I'm really looking forward to it. A lot of excellent artists and a good crowd of art collectors. Let's hope this beautiful weather continues.

I have a new fall and winter schedule coming up soon. If you plan on ordering holiday gifts this year please plan and order ahead. I get overwhelmed the closer we get and I don't want to disappoint anyone.

Just a few pics from the Evanston Lakeshore Show. I think I had the best view of the lake and lagoon.

Thanks again for all your support of my work and I hope to see you soon!

Art Fair Season

I'm in full swing with the summer art fairs. Pensacola was wonderful. The museum people couldn't have taken better care of us. I got to use my new tent and it even held up to a tornado near by. I thought for sure I was going to return on Sunday and there wouldn't be anything left. I also took advantage of being on the Gulf and had my family meet me there. We stayed in a wonderful condo on the beach . I really relaxed for once. If anyone would like the contact info for the condo just shoot me an email. It was very affordable and oh, so perfect!
Last weekend I did the 57th Street Art Festival in Hyde Park. I've decided if I ever have to move from Rogers Park I'd go to Hyde Park. Such a great mix of peoples. The weather was absolutely perfect and the fair itself was top notch. A lot of very good artists at this show. I was honored to be among them.

Next, tomorrow I'll be at the Andersonville Midsommer Fest on Clark. My booth #305 is right in the middle of the fair near Starbucks (thank goodness). It's going to be a hot one so have plenty of sunscreen, a hat and a cold one in hand. I have a lot of new images since last year's Midsommer Fest so come by and see me.

New Shows, New Art

This weekend I'll be in the Glenwood Arts Fest in Rogers Park (booth #80). There's always great food, music and creative artist at this show. The week after I'm in the Streeter Fest one block off the Mag Mile. This is a new venue but I think it's going to be a good show.

As you can see I've added new images. This is part of a group of horses from the Navy Pier carousel. I've also stocked up on Chicago images since I keep running out so quick at shows. Also, I have big news...I'm in One Of A Kind show at the Mart this December! How cool is that?! I'll be working my little thumbs off from now until then.
September shows:
Lincoln Park Art Faire--Sept. 10 &11th
The Gralley in Edgewater--Sept. 17th

The Election--Just My Opinion

What, no photos?! That's right. I feel very fortunate to live in Chicago. I took my daughters to the Obama rally in Grant Park and I didn't even take a camera. The reason for no camera was that I wanted to be with and totally present for Stella and Lily. We stood shoulder to shoulder for hours with a sea of people from all over the country and watched history in the making. I cried and so did many other people--even the really big guy just in front of us. I was so proud of our country and I was proud of Chicago with how it accommodated the largest crowd I've ever seen.
Two years ago I photographed Michelle Obama when she was speaking at a luncheon for a Chicago think tank. She spoke of the less fortunate in America in such an eloquent manner that I left that day wishing SHE would run for president. I say it's about time we have someone in the White House who is intelligent and knows how to complete a sentence!
Just my opinion.

Peace,
Juana

TTV of Rogers Park

In the last post I said I was going to take off and go shooting at the beach. Well, here are a few photos of that day. The technique I used to create these photos is called TTV--through the viewfinder. I used my digital camera and shot through another camera. It has such a dreamy quality. I've been using it on portraits and flower photos. This is the first time I used it at the beach.
The location is in Rogers Park, Chicago and only 3 blocks from my house. One of my favorite things to do is take beach chairs with Louis and sit on the pier (with a mimosa!). It really lifts my soul to listen to the waves and feel the breeze off the lake. LOVE IT!
Enjoy my view.

High School Senior Portraits

I can't believe that the feeling of summer almost being over is forced upon us. It's the last day of July and people are already talking about school starting. Since I have a senior AND a junior in high school I'm feeling the crunch. Summer is my most favorite time of the year and my most creative time as an artist. I love getting out of the studio and photographing what I please.
Now is the perfect time to get senior pics done. Everyone looks healthy and energized--and I enjoy taking people around the city to capture the summer light. It's a more relaxed time and I think that's what kids are looking for. We can always do the studio shot but a teen wants to show off their own personal style and I'm the person to help them attain that look.
Take a look at some out-takes from a shoot I just did recently with a senior. She was a joy to work with even on a hot summer day. What a trooper!

Call the studio for information on special senior portrait packages. Check to see if you can become a representative at your school and receive the VIP treatment!

Enjoy the rest of summer!!!!!
